The final document was drafted and a meeting scheduled for the last week in November to discuss the final outcome of the findings.

It was decided NOT to go the KualiCo route for now. We will keep an eye on all the changes, but will rather pursuit a collaboration exercise with Stellenbosch university and/or other SOuth African universities, due to the exorbitant quote received from KualiCo. (Almost R160 million)

Project Discussion 5 Responses to KFS / Kualico Contribution

  1. Feedback received from KualiCo.

All the changes amount to R143 million (with the Rand/dollar @ R10.56). Estimations regarding Localization and VAT were done the same but we know VAT is more work than localizations. Looks like a very long project.

AT this stage the project team recommended that NWU does not go that route. Rather keep what we have and attempt a renewal of the UI in future.

This project will be signed off as soon as we had discussions and final feedback to Elmarie de Beer.

US decided not to go this route, since sharing the cost will amount to R70 million plus..

  2. Johann Olivier with the help of Hanlie Venter and Elizna Jacobs are completing the listing of all the changes NWU did to make KFS usable for NWU and RSA conditions (VAT etc.). We do work with Stellenbosch university too to get input from what they would need extra.

The internasionalisation changes regarding dates and the Rand etc. have been finalised and given to KualiCo for estimation of the amount of work and cost entailed in adding it to the KualiCo version of KFS.

We have discussions with KualiCo every 2 weeks and on the alternate weeks we have discussions with US regarding these. It is a lot of work but we do see progress.

  4. Discussions took place between Ailish and Heather from KualiCo, NWU (AB, Mari, Hanlie) and US (Elizabeth & Ralph) . It was decided to add all the functionality in our KFS that we want to contribute to a Google doc. A second Google doc was setup with the same info but where US can indicate what they want changed/tweaked regarding the current functionality. It will then be discussed before finally added to the KualiCo Google doc.

Will have a meeting again next week with US regarding the progress. Johann Olivier will be added to our group as BA.

Seems like this will be a 3 month project at least.

  5. Discussion between 3 parties NWU, US, KualiCo to follow, determine next steps which will include the approach and reason for approach, current KFS implementation version and scope at NWU, requirement matrix for KualiCo, From this information an estimation for collaboration model can be establish and next steps arranged on.

Challenge currently to establish a discussion session between the groups due to timezone difference and resource availability.
